5 Things I Love at Space NK

So, it’s been a while, right? I was very busy over the Christmas period with celebrations and moving house, however, one of the best things I did in December was working in Space NK as a seasonal sales assistant and makeup artist. Space NK is a chain of luxury beauty boutiques that houses over 50 brands, cherrypicking the best products from each brand’s product range and offering customers a unique and unbiased shopping experience.

For a beauty addict such as myself, walking into any Space NK is like the scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when Gene Wilder sings Pure Imagination and lets the children loose in his edible paradise. I am Augustus Gloop in this scenario. I was working with some of my favourite brands, such as Nars, Laura Mercier and Kiehls, but also made many new discoveries which i wanted to share with you here.

If you only buy any 5 things from Space NK, I would recommend:

Clarisonic - £120-30

This machine is incredible. Clarisonic uses sound waves to clean and purify skin 6 times more effectively than using your cleanser manually, and can be used once a week or once a day. Pop your cleanser on first, then use this over the top to buff it in. You can tailor it to your needs, with sensitive or deep pore cleansing brush heads. Did you know that you can shed one cup of dead skin from your face per day? PER DAY. Ew. Really reinforces the importance of cleansing your skin, doesn't it?! I have scrupulous hand washing practices and after using this on one hand it actually changed colour and was about 3 shades lighter than my other hand. At £120-130 it’s definitely an investment, but well worth it; look after it and it should last you indefinitely.

Acqua di Parma Gelsomino Nobile Eau De Parfum - £68

This is just the most beautiful fragrance. Warm and feminine, it manages to be both sexy and sophisticated. It’s the sort of fragrance you wear and you KNOW that you smell amazing. There was also something a bit nostalgic and comforting about the scent. Italian mandarin, pink pepper, tuberose and Calabrian jasmine all come together to make this perfect bottle of loveliness.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer - £52

Hourglass are a makeup brand from LA who’s products contain as many skincare ingredients as any actual skincare product does. Makeup that’s good for your skin is always a winner in my eyes. This primer does everything that you would ever need from a primer (smoothing skin, fixing makeup in place, etc) but the best bit is that IT’S TOTALLY WATERPROOF. And sweat-proof. Therefore, any product that goes on top is waterproof as well. Swimming? Not an issue! Wedding day? You can cry all you want! Live in England? Never mind the rain! The product is also great for all day photoshoots for working makeup artists. It comes off easily with makeup remover but apart from that, it’s there to stay.

Jurlique Rose Hand Cream £17-£33

I came to Space NK at the start of December with callused winter hands and I left with baby soft, rose scented mittens, because this hand cream is amazing. I tried others in the shop but always came back to this. I liked it so much that I gave it to my Mum for Christmas and she is also raving about the wonders it works. Rose is anti-inflammatory, great for redness, soreness and dryness, and extremely soothing to irritation. This cream also has a lovely thick consistency and a little bit will go a very long way.

Emma Hardie Natural Lift Starter Kit - £32

Emma Hardie is a facialist who’s skincare range is only 3 years old, but has already won 10 prestigious beauty awards; and for good reason. Although I think the real hero here is the Moringa Cleansing Balm, an oil based cleanser free of paraffin and any nasties, the starter set is incredible value and contains everything you need to kick start a new skincare routine. EH is great for even the most sensitive of skins and uses all natural ingredients which I LOVE. Although the skincare range is really aimed at skin which is experiencing signs of aging, I believe that the cleansing products are great for any age. I’m a big fan of oily, balm cleansers and have been for some time, and the Moringa balm is one of the best that I’ve tried.
